We’ve had a nearly perfect summer. Beautiful weather, baseball games, a bit of camping, visits from family, a week in Sun River, and two extra weeks enjoying it all thanks to our new school calendar. In three days we’ll pack it all up. Ten 50 lb. suitcases, 5 carry ons, and 4 backpacks to tide us over until our shipment arrives in mid-October (fingers crossed).
We ended our time on a high note visiting Finnriver Farm and Cidery for the afternoon with good friends. We enjoyed picking blueberries, wood fired pizza, live music and cider. The pigs, chickens, and piles of gravel provided entertainment for the kids. It’s rare to find a place that feels perfectly accommodating to both adults and children, but this place did just that perfectly.
After the buckets were filled we set off to find the pigs. That will be the last pork we’ll see for awhile.
Then we were on to pizza and cider. After filling out a slip they cooked our pizza right there on the spot. They offered the basics like cheese and pepperoni, but also made a farm fresh pizza with squash and tomatoes and a specialty pizza with figs and bacon. Everybody was thrilled with the pizza.
We made a stop in the tasting room and came away with pear cider, dry hopp cider, and a black currant cider. It was a quintessential August afternoon in the PNW. An ideal way to end our time here. I know we’ll be spending several Sunday afternoons there next summer and I think I’ve already convinced Stella she wants her sixth birthday there. Victory!
And now, onto Doha.
